Well, Pimp My Hovercraft

If you've never heard the word "Ekranoplan", well that's ok, because I hadn't either up until about 10 minutes ago.

It's a former Soviet type of plane that was primarily used for transport. In true Soviet style, they are strong, heavy, fast and difficult to maneuver (much like my childhood love, the MiG-25 Foxbat). Some would have 'ground effects' that would create a cushion of air from the wing when travelling at a high speed. They 'fly' underneath radar and would beat the snot out of a transport freighter in a race. They eventually lost popularity (not that they were ever a household name) due to the lack of maneuverability and limited travel routes.
