There seems to be a bevy of great things coming out of South Africa lately: "District 9", a virgin birth via knife fight and the Internet-celebrity posers "Die Antwoord".
Now comes a most delicious line of beverages from Ceres.
From an area in SA named Ceres, after the Roman Goddess of Fruitfulness, Ceres is a fruit growing company that has been around since 1923. They started producing juice in 1982 and started winning awards and gaining worldwide recognition.
The stuff is killer. I'm a self-proclaimed "mango freak" and know that I'm not going to find any decent mangoes in the arctic tundra of Minnesota. But to ward off scurvy, I went hunting for some decent juice and spied this in the health food section at Cub Foods at Knollwood Plaza.
It blew me away. And what is in it that makes it so special?
1) Mangoes
2) Pear juice
And it's in a vacuum-sealed box. No sugar added or any other bs.
I've had the mango, passion fruit and pineapple and all have been impeccable. Mango is by far the best, but I am a little biased from my previously mentioned condition. I also mixed the pineapple with some ginger ale for an awesome cooler, but also to make the box last longer. It's a good price, ranging from $3.23 to $3.99, but drinking it fast can add up.
The company doesn't seem to have much online, social media or otherwise, except a tiny little site that hugs the left margin. If they turn out a product like this, I'm sure they are growing faster than their marketing.

EDIT: I talked to a man from Kenya I work with yesterday. He also boasted the same enthusiasm. He also said when his mother comes to visit from SA, she brings some of their other products that aren't available in the US. He educated me as well on the pronunciation: (Cee-REZ).
